Now they\u2019re phasing many of those out.<\/p>\n<p>For some borrowers, this will simplify decisions. But for many\u2014especially those on forgiveness paths\u2014this creates confusion and urgency. If you\u2019re not careful, you could get locked into a plan that costs you tens of thousands of dollars.<\/p>\n<p>At FitBUX, we track these changes daily and help borrowers stay ahead. Below is your breakdown of what\u2019s gone, what\u2019s going away, and what\u2019s still available.<\/p>\n<p><strong>This article is your source of truth. We\u2019ll keep it updated as policies and court rulings evolve so be sure to BOOKMARK THIS PAGE.<\/strong><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>\u274c Repayment Plans That Are No Longer Available<\/h2>\n<h3>REPAYE<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>This plan is gone.<\/li>\n<li>It was officially replaced at the end of 2023.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>SAVE<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>This plan is technically still \u201cavailable\u201d on paper\u2014but in reality, it\u2019s <strong>frozen<\/strong> due to legal challenges.<\/li>\n<li>You can\u2019t enroll in it right now, and it most likely never returning.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Don\u2019t build your loan strategy around SAVE.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>PAYE<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Still available for now, but it\u2019s on its way out.<\/li>\n<li>Will be officially phased out for new borrowers entering repayment by <strong>July 1, 2026<\/strong>\u2014but it\u2019s expected to be pulled sooner.<\/li>\n<li>If you\u2019re eligible you can go on PAYE now but be prepared to switch plans again in 2026.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>\u23f3 Plans Still Available \u2014 But With a Deadline<\/h2>\n<h3>New and Old IBR (Income-Based Repayment)<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Available for both new and older borrowers.<\/li>\n<li>To qualify, you must start repayment <strong>before July 1, 2026<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>After that, this plan will be closed to new entrants.<\/li>\n<li>Borrowers currently in repayment have <strong>until July 1, 2028<\/strong> to enter these plans. If they do not they will not be grandfathered in. Also, <strong>this date may be accelerated<\/strong> so keep an eye out.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>ICR (Income-Contingent Repayment)<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Still available\u2014but rarely a good option compared to PAYE or IBR.<\/li>\n<li>Also requires repayment to begin <strong>before July 1, 2026<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>\ud83c\udd95 What\u2019s Coming For IDR: The RAP Plan<\/h2>\n<h3>RAP (Repayment Assistance Plan)<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>This is not a replacement for other plans\u2014it\u2019s what\u2019s left after they\u2019re gone.<\/li>\n<li>Starting <strong>July 1, 2026<\/strong>, RAP will become the <strong>only income-driven repayment option<\/strong> available to new borrowers.<\/li>\n<li>If you enter repayment after that date, RAP will be your only IDR path.<\/li>\n<li>We\u2019ll be releasing more content on RAP as details emerge.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>\ud83d\udcc9 Changes Coming to the Standard and Graduated Plans<\/h2>\n<h3>Standard 10-Year Plan<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Still available for all borrowers.<\/li>\n<li>After <strong>July 1, 2026<\/strong>, the standard plan will change to being 10, 15, 20, or 25 years.\u00a0 Your eligibility will be based on how much you owe and you can not switch between standard plans.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Graduated Plan<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Still around\u2014for now.<\/li>\n<li>Payments start low and increase every two years.<\/li>\n<li>Almost never the best option.
