Plus, travel physical therapists salary for a new grad is greater than a typical staff PT job.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The focus of this article is:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>To provide details on travel physical therapists salary; and<\/li>\n<li>What you can strategically do with the salary to put yourself in a great financial situation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Breaking Down a Travel Physical Therapist Salary<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You may be curious about the compensation structure of a travel physical therapists.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For starters, you will receive more <strong><u>take home pay<\/u><\/strong> relative to a staff PT.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Take home pay is key.\u00a0 Being a travel PT means you get a stipend. \u00a0Usually it\u2019s half of the salary you\u2019ll get.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For example, your taxable salary might be $45,000.\u00a0 However, you\u2019ll receive about $45,000 in tax-free stipend as well.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Therefore, your overall compensation plus lower taxes paid increases your take home pay.\u00a0 I\u2019ll touch on this further in the article.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, before doing so, I want to deeper dive into the advantages and disadvantages of travel physical therapy.\u00a0 I don\u2019t want you to simply go into travel because it pays more!<\/p>\n<h3>Advantages of Travel Physical Therapy<\/h3>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Let\u2019s start with the advantages.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Higher take home pay<\/li>\n<li>Exploring options in regards to living and setting<\/li>\n<li>Higher salary makes it easier to deal with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fitbux.com\/articles\/cost-of-living-student-loans\/\">increased cost of living<\/a> due to inflation<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We\u2019ve already touched on one benefit.\u00a0 However, I wanted to state it again. Your overall \u201csalary\u201d as a travel physical therapist is higher.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As a traveler, you can expect anywhere from $90,000 to $110,000 a year. We\u2019ve helped thousands of travel physical therapist at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fitbux.com\/\">FitBUX<\/a> and the average overall salary we see is $95,000.\u00a0 This is also the expectation that we hear from travelers when we attend <a href=\"https:\/\/travcon.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">TravCon<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The reason why this is so important is it allows you to establish yourself financial a lot faster than being a staff PT.\u00a0 We typically see new grads easily using $2k &#8211; $4k a month to build investments or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fitbux.com\/articles\/pay-off-student-loans-fast\/\">pay off debt fast<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For an entry level staff PT job, you can expect anywhere between $58,000 to $95,000 a year.\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fitbux.com\/articles\/physical-therapist-salary\/\">The average physical therapist salary we see at FitBUX is $78k<\/a> which is much lower than what the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bls.gov\/Oes\/current\/oes291123.htm\" target=\"_blank\">BLS<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.apta.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">APTA<\/a> states.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Another big benefit, as a traveler you get to explore the country and different employment settings. This is an awesome benefit.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We see so many new grads take a job and get stuck there for 10+ years because they don\u2019t know that there are better opportunities.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Being a travel physical therapists allows you to see how a well ran clinic functions.\u00a0 Therefore, when you decide to settle down, you\u2019ll know the good from the bad.<\/p>\n<h3>Disadvantages of Travel Physical Therapy<\/h3>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Now for the negatives.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>You will be living a lot more of a nomadic lifestyle. Some people don\u2019t like the \u201cstress\u201d of moving all the time.<\/li>\n<li>You\u2019ll be thrown into the fire and need to learn on the spot quickly. Many new grads we work with say they aren\u2019t ready for that.<\/li>\n<li>Lastly, it can be a logistical nightmare with living situations. You might have a contract in a city across the country but are still renting an apartment elsewhere. However, before I do, I\u2019ll touch on loan forgiveness.<\/p>\n<h3>Going For Loan Forgiveness<\/h3>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you are going for loan forgiveness via an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fitbux.com\/articles\/income-based-repayment\/\">income-based repayment plan<\/a>, a travel physical therapist salary can help you accelerate your overall financial wealth.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">First, on these plans, your payments are based on your income.\u00a0 However, for travel physical therapists the payment is only based on the salary portion not the stipend! This means your monthly payment is only going to be between $50 and $150 a month.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Also, you can save a lot faster because your loan payment is less than a staff PT as well as your tax bill is lower.\u00a0 Its not uncommon for us to see travel PTs with $100k &#8211; $200k saved within 2 \u2013 4 years!<\/p>\n<h2>Comparison between Travel Physical Therapist Salary &amp; A Staff PT<\/h2>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I will use our technology to illustrate how beneficial a travel physical therapists salary is.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Specifically, I will be doing 2 separate scenarios for a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fitbux.com\/articles\/struggling-with-financial-stress\/\"  data-wpil-monitor-id=\"49\">financial plan<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Here are the specifics for the first scenario:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The travel physical therapist is making $45,000 in taxable salary and another $45,000 in stipend.<\/li>\n<li>They will be traveling for 2 years before transitioning to a staff PT job and having an income of $70,000.<\/li>\n<li>$140,000 in student loans and will be paying them off aggressively.<\/li>\n<li>Contributing 3% to retirement.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The specifics for the 2<sup>nd<\/sup> scenario are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A staff PT with a salary of $70,000.<\/li>\n<li>$140,000 in student loans and will be paying them off aggressively.<\/li>\n<li>Contributing 3% to retirement.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The travel PT would pay off you\u2019re their student loans almost a full year quicker. You could probably do that even quicker if you allocated more resources towards the loan payoff which we often see.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The long-term affect is even greater!\u00a0 The travel physical therapist will have about 5% more in assets by retirement!<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This is a significant number.
