However, this article provides you with four answers for those looking to keep-it-simple.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fitbux.com\/student-loan-refinance\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.fitbux.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/Free-Refi-Help-narrrow-ad.jpeg\" alt=\"FitBUX's Free Student Loan Refinance Service\" width=\"728\" height=\"90\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h2 id=\"t-1738855667257\">Answer 1: Private Student Loans<\/h2>\n<p>Should I refinance my student loans if I they are already private student loans?&nbsp; YES!&nbsp; You should look into refinancing because you should be able to get a lower rate now that you have graduated.<\/p>\n<p>Even if you need a co-signor again to refinance, you should do it because many refinance companies have a co-signor release clause that you might not have on your current co-signed loans.&nbsp; Here is an article to read more about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fitbux.com\/articles\/refinancing-student-loans-with-a-co-signer\/\">refinancing student loans with a co-signor<\/a>.<a name=\"answer2\"><\/a><\/p>\n<h2 id=\"t-1738855667258\">Answer 2: The Quantitative Answer<\/h2>\n<p>There are two components that you have to analyze when deciding if you should refinance:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Savings: All else equal, how much could you save by refinancing to a loan with a lower interest rate.<\/li>\n<li>Budget flexibility: When you refinance, you have to choose a loan term. This could drastically increase or decrease your required monthly payment.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Quantitative answer to the question, \u201cShould I refinance student loans?\u201d solely looks at the savings component.<\/p>\n<p>Simply put, the Quantitative answer is: Any loan that has an interest rate above the student loan refinance interest rate you are offered, should be refinanced.&nbsp; Doing so will maximize how much you are saving by getting a lower interest rate.&nbsp; If you want to shop rates, I definitely recommend checking out our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fitbux.com\/articles\/best-student-loan-refinance-companies\/\">top 10 student loan refinance companies.<\/a><a name=\"answer3\"><\/a><\/p>\n<h2 id=\"t-1738855667259\">Answer 3: A Financial Aid Answer<\/h2>\n<p>Remember when we talked about the unique benefits of Federal loans? This is where this approach comes in.<\/p>\n<p>What we have termed the \u201cFinancial Aid Answer\u201d is the complete opposite of the quantitative answer above. &nbsp;It only considers the budget flexibility aspect of refinancing.&nbsp; Often times we hear it from financial aid officers.<\/p>\n<p>Their answer to the question \u201cShould I refinance student loans?\u201d is usually to never refinance out of your Federal student loans. Their logic is that the Federal benefits, such as automatically forgiving the loans if you pass away, are too valuable to give up.&nbsp; In their opinion, you would never refinance no matter what rate you could secure by refinancing your Federal student loans into private student loans.<\/p>\n<p>However, everyone\u2019s situation is different.&nbsp; The biases financial aid officers often times show is one of the reasons why I wrote an article about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fitbux.com\/articles\/finding-student-loan-planner\/\">why its hard to find a student loan planner.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Having said that, a \u201cfinancial aid officer answer\u201d may be the perfect approach for some people.&nbsp; For example, it is a really good approach for those that may have variable income or non-stable income.<a name=\"answer4\"><\/a><\/p>\n<h2 id=\"t-1738855667260\">Answer 4: A General Rule Of Thumb<\/h2>\n<p>As I mentioned in our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fitbux.com\/articles\/refinancing-student-loans-ultimate-guide\/\">student loan refinance guide<\/a>, refinancing is about savings and budget flexibility for the majority of applicants.
