These are solutions Congress can implement immediately if they desired.\u00a0 I doubt Congress actually will do so because it would mean more money in your pocket and less in the governments\u2019 but we can always hope.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If you want to check out the most up-to-date stats on student loans check out this article by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/zackfriedman\/2019\/02\/25\/student-loan-debt-statistics-2019\/\" target=\"_blank\">Forbes<\/a>.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong><a href=\"#1\">Student Loan Crisis Solution #1: Interest Deduction<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"#2\">Student Loan Crisis Solution #2: Pre-Tax Employer Contribution<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"#3\">The Biggest Solution For The Student Loan Crisis: Social Security (#3)<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><a name=\"1\"><\/a><\/p>\n<h2>Student Loan Crisis Solution #1: Interest Deduction<\/h2>\n<p>Currently, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fitbux.com\/articles\/budget\/student-loan-interest-deduction\/\">student loan interest deduction<\/a> for tax purposes is capped at $2,500 and phases out at various levels of income. Phasing out simply means once you make a certain amount of money you can no longer deduct any student loan interest for tax purposes.<\/p>\n<p>What If we were allowed to deduct 100% of the amount of interest paid during the year on our student loans? \u00a0Let\u2019s see how much of a difference this would make.<\/p>\n<p>The average individual managing and eliminating their student loans with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fitbux.com\">FitBUX<\/a> has $145,000 in student loans at a 6.3% interest rate.\u00a0 That equates to about $8,800 of interest paid in the first year.<\/p>\n<p>Let\u2019s say you are in the 20% tax bracket, you would save $1,760 per year if you could deduct 100% of the interest from your taxes.\u00a0 If you used that money to make prepayments on your student loans, you would have your loans repaid a full year earlier!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fitbux.com\/student-loan-refinance-giveaway\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-10989 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.fitbux.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Jumper-2-horizontal-ads.jpeg\" alt=\"FitBUX Student Loan Refinance Give Away\" width=\"728\" height=\"90\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.fitbux.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Jumper-2-horizontal-ads.jpeg 728w, https:\/\/www.fitbux.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Jumper-2-horizontal-ads-300x37.jpeg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 728px) 100vw, 728px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a name=\"2\"><\/a><\/p>\n<h2>Student Loan Crisis Solution #2: Pre-Tax Employer Contribution<\/h2>\n<p>Recently, Congress <a href=\"https:\/\/wtkr.com\/2019\/02\/13\/warner-thune-introduce-legislation-to-address-student-debt-crisis\/?fbclid=IwAR27DvX0iPRpTEJOLAypeFIbOSBP4dgWu_Y7h-o8i8p4pihBCSICiAUIAf0\" target=\"_blank\">introduced a bill<\/a> that would have major repercussions.\u00a0 The bill would allow employers to contribute $5,250 in tax-free money to pay their employees\u2019 student loans.<\/p>\n<p>Currently, if your company pays anything to your student loans, you pay taxes on the amount at the same rate as your taxable income. If this bill goes through, that means you would save another $1,050 in taxes if you are in the 20% tax bracket.<\/p>\n<p>Between this student loan crisis solution and solution #1, you\u2019d save $2,810 per year. ($1,760 + $1,050)<br \/>\n<a name=\"3\"><\/a><\/p>\n<h2>The Biggest Solution For The Student Loan Crisis: Social Security<\/h2>\n<p>It is no secret that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marketwatch.com\/story\/this-is-the-wall-americans-really-need-to-worry-about-2019-02-25\" target=\"_blank\">Social Security is failing<\/a> and is a horrible investment for the younger generation.\u00a0 Between your contribution and your employer\u2019s contribution, about 13% of your gross income goes to fund social security.<\/p>\n<p>The idea is if you have student loans, you could elect to contribute the 13% to social security or use those funds to pay off your student loans.<\/p>\n<p>For context, the average new grad on FitBUX\u2019s platform makes $78,000 per year. That is $10,140 extra that could be used to pay off loans, EVERY YEAR!<\/p>\n<h2>Conclusion<\/h2>\n<p>Each of these ideas would be extremely beneficial to student loan borrowers.
